Stolen Vehicle Chase Injures 4, Traps Passenger Suspect – How do Palmdale Car Accident Victims Get Compensation for Criminal Acts Under California Laws?

CarCollision2

A high-speed police chase of a stolen vehicle landed four people in the hospital on Monday, July 29, and Palmdale and California drivers wonder what they can do if they are the victim of criminal activity to get compensation for their injuries. According to local news reports, the scary criminal incident occurred on Monday evening a little before 5:30 p.m. in Long Beach, California. The Long Beach Police Department revealed that the collision that sent four individuals to the hospital initially began when two of the individuals involved stole a vehicle. That caused a high-speed police chase to ensue, and the driver of the (allegedly) stolen vehicle blew through a red light on 4th Street and Cherry Avenue in Long Beach. A second passenger vehicle that was driving south on Cherry Street hit the stolen vehicle with the two suspects inside. The stolen vehicle then hit another three vehicles that were not occupied, but were parked on the road.

Although one of the suspects who is alleged to have stolen the vehicle that blew the light and caused the accident, the other suspect who was a passenger in the vehicle ended up being trapped in the wreckage. Police officers were able to apprehend that suspect and he was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the stolen vehicle that fled the scene was later apprehended and also taken to the hospital. The two other individuals who were involved in the accident (but who were not involved with the stolen vehicle) were also injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing and no further information about the suspects or the victims has been released to the public.

Can Palmdale Car Accident Victims Get Compensation if They are the Victim of a Criminal Act?

Most Palmdale drivers and residents are aware that criminal actions are brought on behalf of the state, and civil actions are brought on behalf of the individual. Accordingly, a Palmdale car accident victim is not entitled to compensation through the criminal law process. However, victims of car accidents involving criminal activity may be entitled to compensation under separate California civil personal injury laws. Under California personal injury laws, Palmdale car accident victims can bring a civil case in court for compensation, even if the party who caused their injuries and damages has been prosecuted in criminal court. In order to determine if you have a case for compensation in Palmdale for your car accident injuries, it is best to speak to an experienced Palmdale car accident lawyer as soon as possible.
