A new study released by Consumer Affairs just last week sheds light on the risk Palmdale drivers and residents face when sharing the roads with Victorville drivers. The surprising study revealing just how dangerous Victorville drivers can be was published earlier this year in late September. The study analyzed data from the United States Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and compared the rates of crashes involving risky or dangerous additional factors, such as the presence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, and bad driving. U.S. cities were assigned scores based on this comparison, with the highest score representing the city with the worst drivers. According to the Consumer Affairs study, Victorville scored 64 in the study, placing second only to Memphis, Tennessee, at a score of 77.3. The study concluded, with regard to Palmdale’s neighbor, “Victorville drivers are among the worst in the country, in part due to the high number of traffic deaths involving alcohol.” The study also noted that with regard to car accident fatalities in Victorville, “In 2022, this city, about 85 miles northeast of Los Angeles, had the second-highest number of fatalities involving a driver with a positive BAC (13.4 per 100,000 people). It also had the fifth-highest number of fatalities linked to speeding (11.2 per 100,000 people).” Of note, Victorville was not the only California city to make the list, with San Bernardino scoring 60.6 in the study. Of San Bernardino, the experts said, “It’s not surprising that San Bernardino’s drivers got such a bad ranking…In 2022, the city had the highest rate of fatalities involving driving under the influence (7.7 per 100,000 people). It also ranked fourth in fatalities linked to speeding (11.3 per 100,000 people).”
