Palmdale Area Communities Float New Traffic Regulations to Limit Speeds, Prevent Car Accidents

CarCrash2

The Los Angeles County Department of Public works has proposed a whopping 28 new traffic regulation orders in the Palmdale and Los Angeles County area. The changes would impact the Palmdale area’s unincorporated communities, such as Acton, Lake Hughes and Sun Village. The first of the proposed regulations would limit speeds on 110th Street East, between Palmdale Boulevard and Avenue S in Sun Village, California to only 50 miles per hour (currently, the speed limit on that street is 55 miles per hour). Another of the proposed speed-reducing measures would establish a 35 mile per hour speed limit on Avenue R between 100th and 120th streets in Sun Village, near Littlerock High. A speed limit proposal for Lake Hughes is also included in the 28 speed limit proposals, with a suggestion for a stop at the intersection of Trail N and Trail K. The speed limit proposals also extend to the communities of Southeast Antelope Valley/unincorporated Palmdale and Acton, among suggestions in other communities within the Palmdale and Los Angeles County area. Of the proposals, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works stated, “Public Works is recommending these actions to support traffic safety, enhance traffic flow, and facilitate passenger loading at two schools.” The board meeting in which the new proposed speed and traffic limits will be proposed is set to occur on Tuesday, January 21 at 9:30 a.m. Members of the public are encouraged to attend, and may do so by phone or in person. It remains to be seen whether these proposals will be voted through and implemented in Palmdale, and whether car accidents and other automobile accidents will be reduced.
