Multiple Truck Accident Leaves One Truck Driver Dead in Sacramento, California – Drunk Driving Suspected

18Wheeler

Most Palmdale drivers may be aware of the dangers of larger vehicles, like trucks, on the road with smaller cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Indeed, throughout the years, trucks have grown in size and capacity, and today’s new trucks can even decimate small SUVs and what were once thought to be larger vehicles out on the road. The thought of even one truck-involved accident could send shivers down a driver’s spine, but how about the thought of a three-truck accident? Unfortunately, a multiple truck accident that may have involved drunk driving claimed the life of one truck driver earlier this month in Sacramento County.

According to local news reports, CBS News Sacramento, the three-semi-truck accident happened as a result of an almost chain-like reaction that began at an intersection near Elverta Road and Dominion Way near Antelope in Sacramento County. At around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, a truck driver entered the intersection and stopped, and another truck followed behind. However, the second truck behind the first truck did not stop at the intersection, but instead plowed into the first truck, sending it into the intersection. Once in the intersection, a third truck that was passing through the intersection hit the first truck. Authorities do not know why the second truck did not stop at the intersection and as it pulled up to the first truck. Tragically, the driver of the second truck, identified as a male driver around the age of 60 or 70 years old, died as a result of the accident. The driver of the third truck (that collided with the second truck after being pushed into the intersection) did not wait at the scene of the accident, and instead fled, requiring authorities to track the hit-and-run driver down. That truck driver was later arrested by local law enforcement authorities, and was charged with the criminal charges of hit-and-run and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, the driver of the third truck will not be charged for the death of the driver of the first truck, as the driver of the third truck did not cause his death. Fortunately, the driver of the first truck was not injured. The driver of the first truck has been described as a minor.

What Happens When a Drunk or Negligent Driver Causes Another Driver’s Injuries in Palmdale, California?

Although the driver of the first truck was, fortunately, not seriously injured in the multi-truck accident, the recent case raises questions about what rights and options Palmdale residents have when they are injured in a car accident or truck accident due to the negligence or drunk driving of another driver. Under California personal injury laws, victims of drunk driving car and truck accidents in Palmdale may be entitled to money compensation for their injuries and losses.
