A 5-year-old California girl from San Bernardino is in tenuous medical condition after surviving a serious truck accident last week. According to local news reports, KTLA 5, the horrific and serious truck accident occurred on Thursday, June 20, at around 12:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Highway 395 and Calleja Road in Adelanto, San Bernardino County. Local law enforcement authorities state that several people, in addition to the 5-year-old girl, were injured in the trucking accident, which, ultimately, involved a total of six vehicles and the semi-truck. The 5-year-old girl, who has been identified by her family members as Dalilah Coleman, was rushed to the hospital by airlift for emergency medical treatment and remains fighting for her life. Young Delilah suffered a fractured skull, broken leg, and other injuries as a result of the truck accident, and is now being treated at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.

As for the cause of Delilah’s injuries, her family believes that the truck driver who was driving the semi-truck may be the culprit. Delilah was driving with her mother’s ex-partner to visit Delilah’s stepsister, and Delilah’s mother’s ex-partner was also injured in the accident. Marcus Coleman, Delilah’s father said of the accident, “He [Delilah’s mother’s ex-partner] said the last thing he remembers is he looked up in the back and he seen headlights coming at him really fast…He was trying to process it and it was too late.” Mr. Coleman, who is also a commercial truck driver, believes that the driver of the semi-truck rear-ended the vehicle Delilah was occupying, due to construction in the area, which began the six-vehicle chain-reaction-type accident. Mr. Coleman also says that witnesses to the accident told him that the semi-truck driver may have been dozing off at the wheel when the accident occurred. “There is no reason for her to be up there…For his negligence, my daughter is the one that suffered,” Mr. Coleman stated. Investigations into the terrible accident are still ongoing, and San Bernardino law enforcement has not yet identified the cause of the accident or determined whether negligence was a factor.
